Konami intimidó a los creadores de Syphon Filter con el tráiler de Metal Gear Solid en E3
Hoy en día, podemos decir que Metal Gear y Syphon Filter son dos sagas que encontraron un gran éxito en el ámbito de las experiencias de espionaje. Si bien es cierto que la popularidad de la franquicia de Kojima ha alcanzado cotas desorbitadas, ambas marcas ocupan un hueco en el corazón de muchos fans del género.
Sin embargo, los creadores del primer Syphon Filter se sintieron muy intimidados por Konami y la presentación que hizo de la aventura de Snake en el E3 de 1997. Así lo recuerda
Konami no fue precisamente discreta a la hora de dar a conocer Metal Gear Solid: La primera vez que el mundo vio ese tráiler, no era simplemente en una pequeña TV en el stand de Konami. Se presentó en una gigantesca pantalla que se elevaba por encima de todo lo demás. Hasta donde recuerdo, ellos reproducían ese tráiler cada hora para la convención entera, y esto se convertía en una especie de cita de visionado – había un gran público, así que todos se acercaban, se sentaban y miraban.

Y, si bien es cierto que su título terminó ofreciendo un tipo de experiencia radicalmente diferente, Ham estaba desesperado por el tráiler de Konami del E3 de 1997. A fin de cuentas, parecía que hacían todo lo que intentábamos hacer, pero mejor.
Syphon Filter, una saga en silencio
Ambas franquicias encontraron su propio camino en la industria de los videojuegos. Llevamos años sin saber nada de Syphon Filter y todo apunta a que no hay planes de revivir sus aventuras de espionaje. No obstante, y teniendo en cuenta que Metal Gear está experimentando un gran regreso con Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, es posible que los dueños de Syphon Filter nos sorprendan en el futuro con una iniciativa que recupere sus clásicas experiencias.
